Ligue 1: Criticism of Verratti: He smokes, drinks and goes out almost every night

Marco Verratti isn't enjoying his best spell at Paris Saint-Germain and his inconsistency has seen an old quote from French journalist Julien Laurens resurface.

In 2019, Laurens spoke about the Italian's lifestyle in a positive way, given that he had just played so well in PSG's last 16 first leg win over Manchester United at Old Trafford.

"Because he was not fit, because he was not 100 percent, because he only played one game in the last month, because last week he was partying until 06:00 for Neymar's birthday, because he smokes, because he drinks, because he's out pretty much every evening of the week and then comes out with a game like this at Old Trafford, I think it's just sensational," the journalist said on BBC.

"If he had the lifestyle of Cristiano Ronaldo or the work ethic of him, I don't know where he would be in terms of world-class midfielders."

Now, though, with Verratti not at his very best, those old comments have been shared again and the player has been criticised for his lifestyle.

The 28-year-old was excellent in the first leg against Barcelona in February and will now look to perform well again as PSG aim to go on a run in the Champions League.
